Conservation Groups and Associations
The Pollinator Partnership is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization-- the largest organization in the world dedicated exclusively to the protection and promotion of pollinators and their ecosystems. Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and other small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. They also sustain our ecosystems and produce our natural resources by helping plants reproduce. Unfortunately they are in trouble. Some species have seen a 90% decline in their populations over the last decade. Without the actions of pollinators agricultural economies, our food supply, and surrounding landscapes would collapse.
The Pollinator Partnership’s mission is to protect pollinators, critical to food and ecosystems, through conservation, education, and research.
The Pollinator Partnership has created Ecoregional Guides, “Selecting Plants for Pollinators,” for 31 ecoregions in the U.S. These guides are practical tools for farmers, ranchers, gardeners and public and private land managers who want to share their landscapes by establishing habitat for pollinators through native plants that are specific to their own region. The guides are available for free at http://www.pollinator.org/guides.htm. All users need is their zip code, and an online Zip Code Habitat Locator will connect them to their map and guide.
Useful Resources- Farmers, Ranchers and All Things Agricultural
There are hundreds of farmers and ranchers across North America who are supporting pollinators on and for their lands, and each has their own story. Each farmer’s story provides insight on what has been successful and what lessons were learned on farms small and large. Farmers and Their Stories is a project of the North American Pollinator Protection Campaign (NAPPC) Agricultural Task Force to Collect profiles of some of these farmers with the goal of sharing information and encouragement among farmers.
